About

Kelping Maine One Community at a Time!

The Long Island After-School Aquaculture Program (ASAP) is a community project led by Long Island Elementary School, the Long Island Recreation Program, and Island Institute Fellow Erin Love.  The goal of the program is to introduce students to seaweed aquaculture in an engaging, hands-on way.

After-school sessions are on Wednesdays in March 2016 and two Wednesdays in May.  All sessions are open to the community.

We hope the resources on this site may be useful for other schools or education-oriented groups who are thinking about incorporating aquaculture into their programming.  Let’s kelp Maine together!

We welcome comments, questions, and other feedback!

Support for the Long Island ASAP is provided by the Island Institute, Casco Bay Estuary Partnership, University of Maine SEANET, University of New England Marine Science Center, Long Island Elementary School, and Long Island Recreation Program.
