Seaweed for Sale!

Today in ASAP we learned about the commercial uses of seaweed.  The kids watched two videos to review the kelp growing process.  Then they talked as a group about various products that contain seaweed.  They were assigned a product to make a commercial about with a partner.  YouTube links to the commercials will be available soon.  As usual, we wrapped up the afternoon by writing a photo journal entry together.  Check it out below!

We watched a video of people harvesting kelp (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgkBZq0CDqI).

We each got a partner.  Each group got a product.  We brainstormed why our product was awesome.

Here are pictures of each group explaining their product:

Our product was the cut and burn gel. It is great because it helps cuts and scrapes and burns heal.

Our product was lotion.  It is anti-wrinkle.

Our product was biofuel.  It is a type of gas that you put in cars.

Our product was seaweed as a food.  One of us was the waitress.  She recommended the nori because it’s healthy and has vitamin C and calcium.

Our product was ice cream. They put seaweed in ice cream to make it smooth and creamy.

When some of us were done with our commercials, we used the picture of the rig that we made the first week of ASAP to label a diorama. The parts are long line, tag line, buoy, weight, kelp, and water.
